What is happening?

The aim of this blog is to make people more aware about the Arctic30 campaign launched by Greenpeace. People all over the world should be aware about the risks and threats of oil drilling in the Arctic ocean!

28 activists from the Greenpeace ship Arctic Sunrise participated in a peaceful protest against Gazprom’s oilrig to attract attention to the issue of harmful oil drilling in the Arctic. The protest took place on 18 September, 2013, and the activists were immediately arrested by Russian police forces. Moreover, the activists and two freelance journalists were put in custody, and firstly accused of piracy, which was later on changed to hooliganism.

The campaign Arctic30 was launched by Greenpeace, and many people around the globe have taken action to free the activists. So far, over two million people have signed a petition targeted towards the government of Russia. By now, most of the activists have been released, however the accusations are still present.

Though the behavior of the Russian's government is questioned and criticized by many, and lots of articles have been published about that, the main aim remains the same: to save the Arctic from dangers that appear from oil drilling!

Welcome to the blog and feel free to join the discussion!
